Morning Movement & Gratitude

Every morning when you wake up, you decide yourself how you start your day. I myself developed a great habit of morning movement and gratitude in nature. It is the best way I can imagine to start a new day and besides of a little morning exercise, it also gives me a lot of clarity and gratitude on my life.

Every morning I wake up, visualize my affirmations while drinking a cup of warm water with lemon juice and honey, I meditate, and then leave the house for a morning exercise in nature. Whether it’s 2°C and raining or – as today – 25°C and sunny – it doesn’t matter, I go out into nature.

My morning movement practice is usually a run which I end with a stretching session in the rising sun. In the summer I sometimes put on my Rollerblade’s to roll towards the rising sun. My morning movement practice could be as short as 5 minutes or it could be a 10 km run – most often it’s a 10 minute run accompanied with a 5-10 minute stretch.

As I naturally wake up latest at 5:44 AM I usually enjoy the beautiful morning stillness all by myself. When I’m outside in nature, I can hear the birds singing, I smell the morning air, and I can see the sun slowly rise. Some mornings I feel the rain falling on my skin, soaking my clothes. Other days I feel the sunlight warming my skin. With this routine, every morning I feel a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for life. During this first hour of my day, I couldn’t be happier being alive.

Even if I spend the entire rest of my day in the office with artificial light I have already experienced a truly grateful moment during the morning hours in touch with nature. This calmness cannot be taken away from me.
