Today, smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung are struggling to come up with new innovative smartphones. Each year there is a phone with a slightly improved performance, slightly improved camera, and tiny software and design adoptions. However, phones and screens are the main portals of how we consume media and communicate with other people. Screens, as we know them, might soon become obsolete.

As I opened the Messenger app today I saw a friendly face of a friend in a rectangle on top of all messages. I clicked on it and it was another Snapchat cloned feature. The same “story” feature we already know from Snapchat, Instagram, and most recently WhatsApp.

You are watching a movie or you are in a bar and you don’t know the name of a song? Just ‘Shazam It!’. Shazam is very likely an app you already know. It is a very helpful app which listens for a few seconds to an unknown song and it will then give you the song name. I used it multiple times to find out the title of a song. In bars, cafés, clubs, in movies, youtube videos, and much more. Everywhere you hear a song you don’t know but want to know you use Shazam.
